MORE DEAD THAN ALIVE

Life in work can indeed get boring, which no doubt has been ruminated upon for aeons. This was the single most important reason for such a long gap in posting. Now don't be misled coz nothing's changed to make it more interesting!!

The only thing is now I am done and dusted with all the training stuff and counting down 8 more days before boarding a flight back home. But again getting a flight back seems to a major hurdle thanks to an incompetent travel agent back in India who does not seem to even understand the simplest of requests ... guess thats one of the many qualities we acquire at birth.

And now to the topic. On second thoughts, could have named this post "It all ends with a bang" more appropriately. But then as the saying goes "Whats in a name?!"

To fill up the long gap, its been regular studying, exams, simulated field jobs and stuff since the start of the year. And ever since last week all of us here have been counting days to 25th January when this torture would end. So finally arrived the last item in the menu ... JOB 3 - the last time an instructor will screw your happiness out of you, the last time you will ever be reminded of vivas (that we all imagined would end with college) and so many other lasts.

Only it turned out that I would have to be the 1st engineer on the job. Add to that the truck was screwed up and had to be repaired thoroughly for over 2 days before we could start. This basically meant that instead of starting at the scheduled 14:00 hours, I, with my "crew" had to come at 9:00 and start getting things sorted out. But then something had to go wrong!!

So it all started with my tools not powering up downhole. But what followed afterwards made this problem peanuts. Somehow managed to finish my 1st set of measurements ... but then got stuck in hole with radioactive ,sources unable to pull out due to some problem which would not allow me to send AC power to the tools. Finally managed to pull out but with sources in a state that would be a nightmare for anyone!! :(( But then was able to get the radiation sources out safely. Thank God!!

So set up another set of tools to run into hole and realized that we had the same problem as before. Only this time we had to inform an instructor of what was happening. I'm yet to realize which is worse ... to get into a problem or to tell an instructor of the same!!

To turn a long story (or rather a long night) short had to spend more than 20 hours in inhuman temperatures of almost -20 degC in snow trying to fix a stupid truck and a f****k up acquisition system.
So end of the day spent more than 36 hours without sleep and no clue as to what I finally submitted for the "client".

However there is always a silver lining to the cloud ... am flying home in 7 days!! :)
